What is localization and how is it different from translation?
Translation is taking a text and trying to convey the same message in another language, without changing the content.
Localization (or l8n, if you will), is a bit more complex: it involves the adaptation, both in form and meaning, of an original text for another culture/market. This process usually applies to software, videogames (imagine transposing a videogame from a culture so different like the Japanese one!), websites, products, apps, marketing material, e-learning courses... and is aimed at obtaining a text that seems written in the target language and is locally appealing.
